What is you overall attitude toward marketing research?

Do you think that it is a beneficial activity from a consumers perspective? Or do you think it merely gives marketers new insights on how to convince customers to by something they really don't want or need?

What is you overall attitude toward marketing research?
It is one of the first steps in developing a marketing plan. It keeps you from developing a product that no one wants or the market is too small.
Reply:I think it's beneficial to the consumer, to a degree. It's like anything-engineering is beneficial to the consumer until it produces huge gas-guzzling SUV's that people "need". The objective is to make a product that is exactly what the consumers want, and then advertise or market it to exactly who would want it. Consumers are convinced that they need something only if they allow themselves to be convinced. Of course, marketers are going to take advantage of people who are easily persuaded, but ultimately it's the individual who is responsible for their own actions. Stop blaming the marketers!
