Is there another site like consumer reports?

they charge now... im researching baby stuff.

Is there another site like consumer reports?
A great resource for baby stuff is the book "Baby Bargains". They test every kind of baby product you could possibly need and rate them according to durability, value for the money, etc. It's very thorough and informative. If you don't want to buy the book, you can check it out from the library, but I would recommend buying it so you can always reference it when buying baby stuff.

They also have "Toddler Bargains" for when that time comes.
Reply:I found e-opinions to be very useful. While you do have to realize that many complaints are by people who clearly had stuff that was broken when it arrived in the box (and they apparently aren't smart enough to figure that out), I found it very useful to find out how to compare items. Just like everything else, there are new models every year or every other year, so you really have to take it with a grain of salt.

POLL: Is the chance to win a prize NOW DAYS enough to get you to fill out surveys or participate in research?

The phenomonon is this: More research companies are collecting data from consumers, particularly with the ease of distribution and feedback that the internet affords. So surveys are popping up everywhere on-line and more and more are asking you to spend 10, 20, 30 minutes or more filling them out...and for what? A "chance" to win some prize? And if you've ever participated in these, you know that it is RARE (if ever) that you win.

So are you feeling "survey burnout" now such that you are less inclinded to spend time participating in a survey that collects personal information on you, your demongraphics, you buying habits, etc., for nothing more than a CHANCE to win something that in all probability, just won't happen?

Is that "sweepstakes play" becoming more of a "suckers bet" now that these surveys are everywhere?

Or do you feel your free contribution to research is somehow bringing you something valuable, even though you rarely get the benefit of the survey results?

POLL: Is the chance to win a prize NOW DAYS enough to get you to fill out surveys or participate in research?
In responce to the people who answered before me:

If the company claims to give away 5,000 dollars monthly, then they are legally obligated to do so. However (loophole!), unless within their contest rules they explain the method by which they choose the winner, they could simply give it to any contestant they want to.... even themselves!

But no, I would never do one of those surveys. They're simply too time consuming. And the notion of "winning" something in a game of chance like that is really not worth putting effort towards... chances of winning are so small that they might as well not exist.
Reply:I've done surveys for a long time and I created a whole blog about FREE surveys. I posted tutorial videos, proof of payment (checks), legit survey sites, and contact info if you want more guidance or have questions.

Reply:i wouldnt take those surveys, because they take up too much time, and they arent useful. Ive never wone a prize with the ones ive filled out anyhow...
Reply:I never fill out any of those things. Does anyone even get the prize that they offer?
Reply:no..
Reply:I am so tired of surveys. Every time I go to the store there is another 2 feet of receipt about a survey. If you call in you can save 10% off your next purchase, win $5000, etc. Save a tree and quit printing those crazy receipts. I am not going to do it! If they gave me a larger discount I would think about it. And $5000 yeah right. I wonder if they really ever have a monthy winner! I bet they have never given away a penny!

COMPANY DESCRIPTION

We are a professional group that takes marketing research very seriously, and our job is to put our all into whatever we do to make it "Fast," "Inexpensive," and "Tasty".

What is "Fast"? A hall test at our CBR Monitor Room facility reveals constantly-improving efficiency based on 23 years of accumulated know-how, so the main results can be obtained in a short period of time. Even in an ordinary ad hoc survey,if the client wants fast results in order to speed up their decision-making, as long as CBR has responsibility for that project, the deadline will be met without swaying the position of professionalism that having clients give.

What is "Inexpensive"? The increasing level of constantly improving efficiency naturally results in low costs. Generally, as long as survey objectives are clear, CBR will respond with a flexible design based on cost minimization principles. In any case we do not adhere to accepted, rigid methods which burden clients with unnecessary costs.

What is "Tasty"? It is nothing else but accurate, reliable data that satisfies client needs. In providing accurate data, either previous information and discussion or establishing a fresh and highly appropriate hypothesis through qualitative studies at Parle Daikanyama, our group interview facility; and unique survey statistics make it possible. In making reliable data, heuristic methods, supervised logically and with good conscience, fully display their capabilities. "When in trouble, call CBR " was a comment cited in the research devision office of a manufacturer?(¥¥¥or as the story goes).

Current UK consumer Trends?

Does anyone know what the current most popular products are for 13 - 24 year olds in lancashire and the UK on the whole. I am planning to start a new business and need a few ideas. I have done some research and have come up with the obvious ( games console, mobiles, music ) but i want to find more. I want to create a place where the 13-24 year olds can come and buy the products they need but can also use free equipment i aim to provide. If anyone can give me any tips and the information I need i would be very greatful. Thanks

Current UK consumer Trends?
Well why not create a youth club,

many Teenagers tend to create trouble and problems when they have nothing to do, having free equipment would encourage them to stay of the streets and you could sell food, sweets and crisps.

Speak to the local council about funding

just one idea for you.

What are the top three gripes concerning fluorescent light bulbs?

I know there have been all sorts of customer opinion polls done about light bulbs, but they are very hard to find on the Internet. Does anyone have a fact-based idea as to the top three issues that consumers have with household oriented fluorescent light bulbs? I'm looking for research based answers and sources, not personal opinions. Thanks!

What are the top three gripes concerning fluorescent light bulbs?
Some states are trying to ban incandescent light bulbs (ILB) and promote compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL) because CFLs are more energy efficient and release less mercury into the environment. Some negative issues with CFLs are (I don't know if these are top three):

1. They cost more than ILB (but save you more on energy bill)

2. They cannot be used outside in extreme cold/heat.

3. Because they do have small amounts of mercury, they have to be disposed of in a proper manner (sometimes you can return the bulb to the place of purchase or to a recycling facility)%26lt;~~ Research more online and take a look at http://www.lamprecycle.org

For more research look at energy companies websites for the difference between ILB and CFL

Can anybodybody give me a quick summary of what Lancaster's theory of characteristics is?

I'm doing the following assignment:

"Most supermarkets in the UK are promoting the policy of enticing the consumer to use wider range of products. The overall success of this strategy depends strongly on individual's assessment of product's characteristics." Using Lancaster's characteristics theory, discuss this issue."

I've researched Lancaster but all I get is equations and graphs of indifference curves. It doesn't give me a concise answer of what the theory is about. Onbviously it refers to consumer demand... but in what way?

Can anybodybody give me a quick summary of what Lancaster's theory of characteristics is?
Lancaster's theory of characteristics states that the usefulness of goods for the consumer depends on their properties or characteristics. Goods can be can be arranged into groups based on the characteristics they contain. Consumers buy goods within groups based on the number of characteristics they possess per dollar.

The groups are defined in such a way that consumers buy only one item in a group.

The problem is that the group definition are different depending on the consumer. A family with one car would lump all cars in a group. A family with two cars, would maybe make a difference between small cars and bigger ones.

Can anyone recommend a good espresso machine + grinder?

I've got a budget of $1000 total. I've been researching on the net for the past few weeks and I know I want a semi-automatic and a burr grinder. I've worked at several coffee shops in the past so I'm familiar with the big industrial size machines but I'm not sure how those compare to the consumer machines. Some advise from someone who actually owns one would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Can anyone recommend a good espresso machine + grinder?
You might consider a Rancilio Sylvia -- it's intended for a small office or home but comes with the same pro quality portafilter and group as the full commercial machines.

Sylvia should run you about $500 US

I bought a $200 Breville over a Sylvia only because of money... I really had my heart set on a Sylvia. I used to run a coffee bar and I miss my old Rancilio Classe 10, so the Sylvia would have been perfect.

As for a grinder, I believe Rancilio also makes one called Rocky, and so I would expect a Rancilio grinder to work well with the same manufacturer's espresso machine. You're right to look for a burr grinder, though, as they provide much more consistent grind quality than a blade grinder.

Who should be responsible for toxic body care products leaching into the environment?

More and more research points to destruction of our environment from body care products. Who should be financially responsible for cleaning it up? Companies who make them, consumers who use them, or all of us through taxation for government clean-up?

Published July 11, 2007:

Chemicals found in household products like antibacterial soap and plastic bottles are found in sewage water that is discharged into San Francisco Bay, posing a threat to wildlife and humans, according to new data....The inspectors found three types of chemicals -- phthalates, bisphenol A and triclosan. All are suspected of interfering with hormone systems of humans and wildlife..."We're involved because we know that these compounds are out there, and we cannot treat them in the wastewater stream," said Charles Hardy, EBMUD spokesman.

And what classes do you need to take in college to recieve those? In 9th grade we had a class that showed us all the ways companies use to get you to buy a product, such as bandwagon, sex, etc. is this sales and advertising? You know like the proactive commercials and how they use key phrases like "you ARE beautiful underneath your acne" thats a researched phrase to play into the psyche of the consumer and get them to buy their product.

You may search for :Consumer Research, or marketing research, psychology of consumer behavior, consumer psychology. Some use quantitative analysis, surveys, etc. although some companies use emic/qualitative research.

Are you an informed consumer patient?

Do you read up on medical things? Research doctors? Research drugs you are being prescribed? Ask questions? Remember that YOU are the consumer here, NOT the doctor. You have a right to know about your healthcare and what is happening to you, and what your options are.

Remember they work for US not the other way around. Don't be afraid to speak up for yourself and for your loved ones. Take a pad and pencil with you with questions and make sure that everyone is answered to your satisfaction. The healthcare system is getting away with WAY to much these days.

Don't be afraid to confront your doctor, even if it means being dismissed as a patient if they do something that you're not comfortable with.

And last but not least, don't EVER let a doctor give you the drug called Versed for ANYTHING!!!!!!

Are you an informed consumer patient?
yes. i have learned that the best doctor one will ever have is oneself. i have kept myself from getting injured by being informed. i went to have my wrist x-rayed and the tech failed to provide me with a lead skirt to protect my genitalia, if i had not mentioned this to the tech they would have had a lawsuit in their hands.

i have heard of ver-sed which is usually administered my anesthesiologists, I'm not sure what it does i tried to look it up but so far no luck, it would help if you were to tell us why we should not let an m.d. administer ver-sed to us. thanx.-blurey

Are there any studies on the affectiveness of ads on different moods?

Consumers find magazine advertising less intrusive, and because they feel they have more 'control' over their ad exposure, they find it more 'acceptable' than other media.

This researched info from the MPA leads me to infer that this better advertising environment must lead to bigger profits; mood affects purchases, especially in the luxury market.

Anyone have or know of research that backs this up?

Are there any studies on the affectiveness of ads on different moods?
I can't answer your query, but you can probably bet there is such research. Certainly plenty of work has been done on how the inverse is done. How advertising affects a person's mood.

You mention MPA findings that magazine ads are found more "acceptable." I wouln't doubt that advertisers do not concern themselves as much with what consumers deem more acceptable, after the fact, than with what forms of advertisement promote brand recognition. You, no doubt, have seen commercial breaks on TV where a spot is shown, and immediatly repeated. And again, often during the same break. Of course, the exact same spot appears later in the program, and throughout the evening. With the high cost of ad space, you know this is no accident.

Viewers find this irritating, and, possibly less "acceptable" than a magazine ad, but researchers have shown that when the consumer is shopping, they may not remember the irritation with the ad, but they WILL remeber the product.

If you have had kitchen cabinet refacing done, does it really cost less?

We just bought a new home, and the cabinets look dirty and dated. The structure is sound and drawers move beautifully. I want to update the look by either

1) buying new cabinets from Ikea (which was rated #4 by Consumer Reports)--any ideas about that?

2) Refacing the cabinets

Which one will cost less?

I do plan on buying special cabinets (1 or 2) to add to the existing ones to maximize storage.

Please help because I'm a first-time homeowner, and don't have a clue about this. I've spent 4 weeks just researching, and now my mimd is all muddled.

If you have had kitchen cabinet refacing done, does it really cost less?
It is a lot cheaper in most cases to reface cabinets over buying new. I'm not impressed with the quality of some of Ikea's cabinets. They do use quality glides and hinges, the Euro hinges are durable and long lasting. It is the construction and materials that are known to fail. If the construction of the existing cabinets sound, I would opt for refacing. See whether you can determine the manufacturer of your existing cabinetry. Woodmode, Kraftmaid, Thomasville, Walker Wood products and many other brands leave plates or burn in their names. If you have a quality brand, it is an investment. Some manufacturers carry different door styles (i.e. leaded glass, wood finishes) and drawer fronts that universally fit their bases. Some manufacturers have pop outs where the frame of the cabinet door (where the hinges are) has inserts attached that you remove and replace with other styles. Look on the backside of the doors, if you see little silver diamonds holding in the center section, you have a pop out. If you can find the manufacturer, you may have other options to update the look.
Reply:Refacing them would be the cheapest but if you want to add more you may have to get all new so that they all match. i would check out some places in your area and call and find some prices. its all about location. in middle america refacing is cheaper but it NYC or some thing the labor rate for refacing may be more expensive. but you could possibly sell the cabinets on craigslist or some thing and then buy from ikea. so many things to choose from. hope this helps !

Where can I complain against false Nutrition Facts on food package?

I have bought some commodities from Indian grocery shop in Bay area. It is really a bad experience seeing all the lies they put on Nutrition Facts label. They just put anything on any item, I usually buy after looking at the Nutrition facts, after coming home and some research I found what that put on package is just plain false.

I really want them to be punished for playing with consumers health by providing wrong information and there by breaking the law.

Where can I complain against false Nutrition Facts on food package?
How do I make a complaint about food or a food business?

The NSW Food Authority is responsible for ensuring that NSW consumers get access to safe and correctly labelled food.

If you have a problem with food or a food business you can contact the Authority by:

Telephone on 1300 552 406

Facsimile on (02) 9647 0026

Email on contact@foodauthority.nsw.gov.au

Letter to:

Consumer %26amp; Industry Contact Centre

c/- NSW Food Authority

PO Box 6682, SILVERWATER, NSW, 1811.

Alternatively, contact your local council. The Authority and local councils share the workload and have agreed to refer complaints to each other depending on who is best placed to address them. Either way, your complaint gets into the system and will be dealt with by the most appropriate organisation.

It is important that if you are feeling unwell you should separately seek medical advice.

Reply:Depending on where you live, the departments responsible for checking labels and letting it into the country are partially at fault.

Also you can make the same product over and over and send it to a lab and it will come back different alot of times.

In the USA we have the FDA.

If your here call them.

If your not in the USA find out who the governing body on food is.

Report it to them.

( but you may get the same answer I gave you about lab testing).

Cali? It would be the FDA. They control all the imports as well as domestic products.

What kind of automotive service and repair fraud are there?

I need to write a 3 page research paper on automotive service, and repair fraud. any ideas?

who is targeted

frequency

common fraudulent practice etc

also i need a suggestion to make it safer for consumers.

What kind of automotive service and repair fraud are there?
Targets are generally frequent customers, women, and public naive in auto repair and cost.

Fraudulent practice is usually severed belts, punctured A/C systems, damaged suspension components, damaged lines holding fluids, punctured tires etc. Taking old parts and cleaning them up to look new and then selling them as new parts.

Safer for a customer, take a vehicle to a person you can trust or take an expert with you.
Reply:You can find all types of auto repair fraud by going to GOOGLE.COM.

Friend of mine loaned his truck to his son at Med School. He told him to make sure he had the truck serviced regularly. Son came home one weekend, dad looked at the service paper work. One of those QUICKY LUBE JOB places charged him for an oil change and lube job. Thing is, on the pick up there are no lubrication fittings underneath. Son was charged for work that could not be done.

If someone tells you that you need to change the turn signal fluid, or change the air in your tires because it's stale (smell it, see how bad it smells?) find someplace else! he he

Told the so called dealer to go fly a kite. They were trying to charge me $1100.00 and most of the so called work did not need to be done. But they wanted me to pay for useless work. So I stay away from them. So I would say if you have doubts take it to another person like a reliable mechanic and see what that person says and have it checked out that way.

Do u prefer healthy foods and beverages? Do u check the nutrition label of the pack before purchase?

Hi.. i m working on a research paper to know the preferences and more of the consumer - male between the age group 21-29 in the USA. So i would like you to share your preferences if you belong to the category. Any likes and dislike would be welcome. Please do post

Do u prefer healthy foods and beverages? Do u check the nutrition label of the pack before purchase?
I do. Ingredients are most important, then nutrition info (protein, carbs, fats).

I pay no attention to calories though because they are irrelevant if your giving your body the right amount of things it needs each day. (A lot of people blindly assume that energy is energy and it doesn't matter if they get their "2000" from a piece of pie or whole grains, fruits, etc).

What I don't like about the label:

For people that do use calories as a guide the labels are incredibly misleading, especially when a bag that is for purposes of reason is intended for a single person to eat in a single setting. Example: Roman Noodles. If you look at the package you will see that the calorie content is labeled as being half because they list 1 serving as half a "noodle block". Who eats roman noodles like that. So what I'm saying is that if the entire package is meant to be eaten by one person at one time list the entire package as one serving.

There are a lot of foods out there that have that problem. I'm not saying that if it's a big bag they should list the entire thing as one serving, just if it's reasonable that an individual could assume that the entire bag is intended to be a single meal. Like a Big bag of durritos shouldn't be listed as one serving, but those little "99¢" bags should be because I believe most people buy them to consume for themselves.
Reply:hmm... sometimes, i do check the labels before i buy something--%26gt; how much is the salt content, calories, things like that... but mostly, I just buy whatever i think tastes good or if i REALLY want it..

Organic Product Consumers - Opinions Needed?

Hello - I am considering opening an organic beauty and cosmetics distributorship. It is similar to an Avon business, however, the products are USDA certified organic. The products and company are GREAT - offer skincare, cosmetics, household. However, the only concern is that the price points are higher than drugstore type products. The lipsticks are about $20, skincare basic package about $100. However, given the current market and concerns of "green" living in our country, I wonder if there is a market for the right consumer. Can you help me do some consumer buying research by giving me your opinion! Thank you.

Organic Product Consumers - Opinions Needed?
First off, you need to look at your cost to start up this business, monthly cost to operate it, and minimum monthly sales needs. It sounds like an MLM, and if it is, some of them can be almost dreadful to keep up!

If you think you can meet the minimum demands required for this business, I say go for it. MLM can be great if you work it. Don't expect it to just fall into your hands though, it's going to take time and effort.

You can contact me if you need to for additional information on MLM and Network Marketing. I can give you some great informational websites and also great businesses that don't require too much from you to start or keep going.

I've been thru too many to count, and have only found one to suite me.
Reply:I do green household products, reusable bags, orgainic fruit, drive a very small amount and commuite and car pool. I love makeup thou. I love MAC etc. The only reason I do not have orgainic makeup is because I never seen any with bright colours, shiny gloss and I have never been able to test any. It always looks dull and costs too much.

Now if I could get what I want in organic lines, I think I would make the switch. I love green products and keeping myself healthy.

Good luck, I think this is a great idea.
Reply:It's the perfect time for it! Green and organic are at their most trendy, so it's an excellent time to start building a customer base. Throw in the term "hypo-allergenic" and you've sold me (and others, I'm sure)! Your market may be more with the department store shoppers than the drug store ones, though, to keep comparable price points. Good luck!
Reply:i do the green orgainc thing, those who do it for sincere reasons know they can make super cheap products and that there are great ones out there at all price points, however, i have a friend who sells products you are describing for fun and enjoys it, its all about your market and knowing friends to have parties- and making sure those friend currently pay $20.00 for lipstick
Reply:That would be expensive, Bare Minerals does not even charge that much for a lipstick and their great! I like where your coming from though, that is a very good idea! Best of luck to you!

What is the area of buisness that studies people to improve sales?

What are the names (position) of people (and scientists) that are hired on and by companies to study the buying habits of others to improve sales? And what classes do you need to take in college to recieve those? In 9th grade we had a class that showed us all the ways companies use to get you to buy a product, such as bandwagon, sex, etc. is this sales and advertising? You know like the proactive commercials and how they use key phrases like "you ARE beautiful underneath your acne" thats a researched phrase to play into the psyche of the consumer and get them to buy their product.

You could also contact places who have discount cards for their customers (like Food Lion--MVP card or CVS) and find out which company keeps up with sales and tracking.

Aside from that, you may want to take some motivational classes, or read some motivational books, go to conferences, etc.

Instead of heavily taxing oil companies to redirect money to alternative fuel research...?

Instead of taxing oil companies that already research alternative fuels, provide many jobs for US citizens, make comparatively low profit margins of 6%, and will only pass these additional taxes on to the consumer...

Why not levy a 95% tax on the top entertainers for alternative fuel research. Actors provide little to this country other than entertainment yet they complain the loudest about energy concerns. We could provide them with the piece of mind that they are affecting real change, for the $20 million they make a film they'd still have $1 million to live on which is plenty compensation for play-acting, and we won't appreciably effect the economy.

For example, using round numbers, the top 10 actors each year get taxed 95% on the $20 million they made per movie. We would end up with $190 million for alternative fuel research per year.

We all win.

Instead of heavily taxing oil companies to redirect money to alternative fuel research...?
A great turn using Democratic tactics, my man! Yes, their idea all along is that rich people don't deserve to be rich while others are "suffering", so let's tax them at a higher rate. Give it to the unholy alliance between Hollywierd and the Libs and see how they like the idea. Maybe pitch it to union heads, newspaper moguls, and network executives too. They all make more than me, so they can afford it, right?
Reply:Sadly, what we need is less of this empty rhetoric and more real answers. Report Abuse

Reply:If you were to tax the oil companies, who do you think would be paying those taxes? WE WOULD! They would just pass the tax along to the end users, us. Thanks, but NO THANKS!
Reply:Sounds good to me!
Reply:That may be a win for you -- but it is illegal to tax someone for something they are not directly doing or involved in.

You can't just pick rich people and tax them arbitrarily. The law doesn't work that way.

Taxes must be related to the activity being taxed. Hence, taxing producers of non-renewable fuels to fund renewable fuels.

And with oil companies making billions of dollars in profit a year, they have no rational claim that they cannot afford it.
Reply:Good idea!!

Let's add sports stars to the list as well.

Hillary and Obama can sign them up.
Reply:Which simply pales in proportion to the billions a tax on oil companies would produce.
Reply:--------------

Using government or corporate money for alternative fuel research doesn't work anyway. Politicians, automotive companies, and oil interests just find ways to stall and waste the money, because this is a problem they do not want to solve.

-Carry 5 passengers plus cargo at 95mph.

-Charges batteries in as little as TEN MINUTES.

-Has batteries that last 250,000 miles (never need replacement.)

Sociology Research Proposal?

I have to write a Research Proposal for this class and Im stuck on finding a topic.

1) Im interested in consumer habits of women

2) Also body image and the media

Any suggestion on a good topic??

Sociology Research Proposal?
I recently wrote a paper on how the internet provides a safe/welcoming environment for overweight individuals... Community building for stigmatized individuals is facilitated when geography is irrelevant and when identities can be protected by screennames, etc.

Because of the requirements for the paper, I wasn't able to compare the body ideals of heavy internet users vs. light internet users to see that really does make a difference... Something along those lines (beauty ideals, consumption of beauty products, etc.) would certainly be interesting.

Good luck with your proposal. :)
Reply:With up to 80% of purchases in American society being made by or directly influenced by women, you certainly have a wide selection of concepts and variables to select from.

Depending on your perspective and the time and effort you have (or want) to devote to your research proposal, here are my research questions:

(1) Is consumerism rational behavior?

(2) Do consumers (generally) and females (specifically) tend to purchase goods and services that are not based on need?

(3) Is it possible that consumerism is a phobia?

(4) Is the act of buying goods and services ameliorative?

From those questions you can develop a series of different hypotheses ... I'll offer one as an example: "It seems likely there is a relationship between disposition (or mood) and the propensity to purchase goods and services."

Depending on how you prefer to proceed from that hypothesis, at a minimum, you could propose to structure your study to investigate when female conumers purchase out of need and when they purchase randomly (or not having need), and look to determine if there's an underlying influnce that's prompts "shopping" when there's seemingly no reason to be making purchases.

I hope this perspective is somewhat helpful -good luck, and have fun!
Reply:maybe make your proposal about any of the following variables working together: married vs. single, men vs. women, older vs. younger, wealthy vs. poor, white vs. minority and spending habits, rate of self esteem, proportion of income spent on something (housing, makeup, household necessities), overall happiness, or any other thing you find interesting.

put it together and you've got numerous proposals - ex "wealthy women have higher rates of self esteem than poor women."
Reply:Society views on people and how they are/ such as how a girl is supposed to look likde to be good looking/ if a guy has a lot of girls hes a pimp but if a girl has a lot of guys shes a whore/ views that society give us on things that most people believe in

How much would you pay to stop postal junk mail?

If there was an online service that allowed you to opt-out of all unwanted postal mailings, how much would you be willing to pay for that service? There are ways consumers can do that on their own, but it requires hours of research, letter writing, calling and tracking results. What would it be worth to automate the process and guarantee resutls?

How much would you pay to stop postal junk mail?
$10, or not even. I just sherd my junk, and send a letter telling them not to send ads to me ever again
Reply:i would do the same thing Report Abuse

Reply:thanks four that helpful idea. Report Abuse

Reply:I would not pay anything.

Things with a return address, I mark return to sender.

Things that have prepaid envelopes, I stuff their junk back in the envelope (and sometimes other junk mail too) and return it to them (I write VOID all over the credit card applications and do not mail me anymore).

I used to get lots of junk but I don't get very much anymore.
Reply:Nothing, it is the only thing keeping the United States Postal Service alive and without them all mail would become privatized and mailing rates would skyrocket.

Yes i do.. because in the last time i've became a paranoid about it.. Now maybe they lie or maybe don't say the whole truth but at least i think i made the right choice.. or the least bad.

Sure you do have to check what you are going to "throw inside", .. you are what you eat ;)

How can I be honest about my line of work?

I am an Operations Manager for a company that is a distributor of rats, mice, cats, dogs, and primate for laboratory research. Some of the labs we work with are developing treatments for cancer, AIDS, etc. Others are researching new consumer products.

Oftentimes people get angry at me when I tell them what I do for a living. I sometimes say, "I work with animals" when asked, but they always want to know more. How can I avoid getting into an argument about animal experimentation, which I strongly believe in, when I'm asked what I do for a living?

How can I be honest about my line of work?
Just tell them you're a operations manager for a medical research distributor. It's nondescript but specific enough that you'll get fewer questions. There's really no need to mention that what you distribute is lab rats.
Reply:Sadly enough you can't hide from it. You believe in it and that is what you do so you shouldn't keep it from her. It is part of who you are. If she doesn't believe in it then she can either leave you or realize you are good enough of a person and deal with that side of you or best situation agree with you.
Reply:maybe preface your explanation with "some people take offense to what i do" or something to that effect... if they still want to know more, then explain.
Reply:say that you do veterinary lab diagnostics or somthen fancy like that.
Reply:they should be able to understand that...well..what else would we do? test it on humans? we are trying to find cures, not promoting animal cruelty.
Reply:First off there is never any way to avoid an argument....If you are being honest and the other person gets upset that is their problem. They asked you a question and you answered truthfully. Whenever the situation comes up and you need to answer the "job" question, just be honest, and if they don't like it, there is no need to spend any more time with that person (referring to a date scenario). Although you must keep in mind that not everybody is alike, meaning that not everyone will agree with you, but that doesn't mean you have to cut them out of your life. It's up to you. If you want my personal opinion, I wouldn't keep them around. You say you "strongly believe" in what you are doing and that is awesome! Few people have actual feelings about their line of work. So, that being said, keep it up! Be honest and don't be ashamed and if you catch crap for it, then tell whoever it is to get over it or get out of your life. Under no circumstance should you be around someone who will "rag" on you for your career (which I think is great....I'm not an animal rights activist or whatever those crazy people are). Keep your head up and keep doing what you are doing. Maybe in the end you will help save a persons life....who cares about rats or any other animal for that matter. Animals were put on this earth for us. For companionship, for food, for research, for us!...Sorry I went off, I have a small hatred for people who essentially care more about animals than humans. Hope this was helpful!

Please rate me if you could. I'm on my husbands profile and he keeps complaining about not having enough points:)

Will our mind soon work like Google when we purchase?

I am interested in advertisng and its possible advances. Just as companies pump money into google to be at the top of its 'hit-list' or use keywords, I wonder how advertisers can research further into the consumer psyche to understand what makes us remember and recall a product so we might purchase it. With reference to indirect-advertisng.

Will our mind soon work like Google when we purchase?
Companies in order to understand their consumers better they have to take into consideration about the consumer buying decision-making process and its influencing factors

1. Problem recognition

2.Information search

3.Information evaluation

4.Decision

5.Post-Purchase evaluation

All these factors are influence by Individual influences such as Personality,Perception,Motivation,Attitu... and group influences such as Social Class,Culture/sociocultural,reference groups and family.

In addition Situational influences such as Sociocultural,technological,Economic/Com... and Political/legal factors and finally Marketing Mix (Price,Product,Place and Promotion)

What is the safest and logical way to start a small home business ?

I hold a B.Eng degree and I am currently pursuing PG Diploma

in Marketing. Most companies require heavy initial financial commitment which is very risky. Finding resources on the web is overwhelming as there are Terra pages of info which make benefit formidable. I am fond of eBusiness and web based research. Currently marketing educational CDs with great difficulty as market is flooded with competitiors and consumers are reluctant to try new products. Thinking seriuosly of establishing web research training and consultancy. Would appreciate ideas, suggestion and resources.

What is the safest and logical way to start a small home business ?
You can create an information resource, writing content on marketing and earning through advertising. By advertising, it means banner advertising, contextual or text link advertising. Many people are currently earning through the Google Adsense program - and if your website is a right fit it could earn you thousands a month. You can do banner advertising through agencies like BurstMedia.com, Fastclick.com, TribalFusion.com

Or you can create a website selling your marketing research services and consultancy. It will be tougher to pursue as it takes time to build credibility and expertise on the Web, but you can promote this service by writing articles on the topic, getting as many speaking engagements as possible, etc.
Reply:Try selling Information on this site.

Consumer Psychology Careers?

Hello,

I applied at various colleges for a major in Psychology. I've been researching various distros of psych and that includes consumer psychology. In my mind, I dont see much of a use for them - and would think they get paid horrible. I looked online for career examples but did not really find any other then general things like "marketing".

Does anyone know of a example careers in consumer psychology?

Thanks

Consumer Psychology Careers?
i dont know anything about consumer psychology, but i graduated from UCSD with a BA in psychology and is still jobless. I personally dont think psychology majors get paid a lot, unless you continue your education and get your phD (so you could be a professor, psychologist, etc) or something in psychology. If you do decide to stick with this major, make sure you intern within your related field...in the end, its all about experience. Good luck.
Reply:So let me ask you this, why are you studying Psychology? Do you like to work with people, help people in some way, like the aspects of a discipline that is social related?

I was in your shoes when I didn't know what to study and since I liked aspects of jobs involving people, I chose Psych. I was good at giving advice and at 20 years old successfully counseled my girlfriend's parents on how to communicate better with her. Anyway, I thought I wanted to be a marriage family counciler. I got a degree in general Psych.

I found out later that I would have to do a 2 year paid internship and then start out at $23k a year. No way. I went into PR, sales, then marketing, then got into recruiting, then started my own import/export business, then a coffee broker in Africa, then back to corporate recruiting.

So, the moral of this story is that while I see your intent on picking a professional route in Psych, it doesn't really matter what specific direction it is, if you enjoy people, are good with relationships and have a good intuition, then it doesn't matter. All corporate jobs involve people, working with them, collaborating with them, managing them, selling to them, etc.

If you are good with people, then Psych will give you the method of building a career. It won't matter what specific direction you choose, you'll be successful in any people related jobs.

What can the peer-to-peer lending industry change or add to better benefit consumers?

I'm researching and writing a paper regarding the US peer-to-peer (P2P) lending markets. (1)If you have ever used or have been tempted to use micro-lending for personal gain how has this new trend of lending/borrowing benefited you, (2)what/how do you think these companies can change and/or add to better benefit the consumer, and (3)what segmented markets are still untapped? Why do poptarts come wrapped two in a pack? Do any of you LIKE it that way?

1. The "serving size" is ONE.

2. Even if you have someone else to eat one with you, you probably want different flavors.

3. I don't know anyone who eats them both.

4. The second one ALWAYS gets stale, even if you put it in a Ziploc bag!

I once emailed the poptart people to ask and they said "Our research shows that most of our consumers either eat both or split with another family member."

But that's back-talking because people only do that because they don't want to see the poptarts go to waste! I'm sure they'd prefer a prisintely-wrapped one for the next day.

I can't believe those thin silver wrappers really cost that much more!

Why do poptarts come wrapped two in a pack? Do any of you LIKE it that way?
Ya know, I agree. I never eat both, and the other usually gets thrown away. It goes to show ya, these large companies are just out to save a buck,, (well more like cents because like you said, those cheap little wrappers don't cost that much!).
Reply:because there are are two slots in your average toaster

one is never enough
Reply:Doesn't bother me any.
Reply:LMAO why shouldn't theyy....Maybe they wrap them in two's cuz they wanna or people like them in two's sooo most people do not care about a serving size tho they should and one mroe pop-tart in the morning couldn't kill you could it? xD

lmao i jsut open it take on out then put it back till tomorrow morninggg ^.^

btw:

mine don't get stale yay mee ^.^
Reply:i eat them both =) hahaah

i don't know..one is just never enough..

and if you think about it..

most people put their pop tarts in the toaster

and toasters usually have two slots..

so keeping the other pop tart from being lonely they gave that one a partner ..and that partner...

was a LIFE partner
Reply:I eat both. I just wish they'd come in sturdier packaging. I hate it when they break and get all crumbly- then I'm glad there's another one!
Reply:Must admit I do hate the wrapper... But I do eat both so they dont get stale. sorry!

What would you change [for the better] about your cable company?

I'm doing research for a project in which I have do devise and implement a new strategy of running a business. In this case improving a cable company centered around the needs and whats of the consumer.

What would you change [for the better] about your cable company?
Cheaper service would definately be number one, I would like to see computer connectable DVR units, faster upload bandwidth, all in all WOW has been great to me but all companies could use a little improvement i could also use more reliable service during thunderstorms. (Mine is actually flickering in and out right now)
Reply:When I was using them the customer services telephone help line needed major surgery, it was hopeless.
Reply:How much time do you have? Comcast and RCN both suck. Customer service is extremely bad, and their service sucks.

Service reps don't know what they're talking about. It's like they have a simple formula that they use for everyone when there's internet problems. My internet service often has down times when I can't get on for hours, and everytime I call, I get the same solution: Unplug the cable modem for 10 seconds, then plug it back in. And it never works.

Service reps also have an attitude. An answer is only as good as the question,. so when their question is unclear, it's not my fault that I give them the wrong answer. They start getting mad because I couldn't their question.

I had a tech come over to fix my internet interruptions, and guess what? He didn't fix it. I'm still having the same problem so he'll be stopping by again next week because he didn't fix it the first time.
Reply:I think it would be great to get and pay for only those channels that you want, instead of having to pay for a package and not watch half the stuff.

Interview with Hospital for webmaster position?

Hi Everyone, I am currently a webmaster for a large medical practice. I have had this position for 6 years. We have over 130 pages on this site and it offers good information for women of all ages. When I took over the site, we only had about 7 pages total and averaged about 100 page views per month. Now the site receives over 5000 page views per month and is noticed by the Consumer Research Council of America as one of the best women’s sites on the web.

Recently a new hospital in my area purchased the medical practice. The CEO of my practice has referred me to the CEO of the new hospital to be their webmaster. I would create and maintain the hospital and the medical practice’s websites. Though I am so grateful for this opportunity, I am a little intimidated of the interview with the hospital CEO. What are some good points to bring up in the interview on what I can do for the new hospital? What things are key that I should talk about? TY in advance!

Interview with Hospital for webmaster position?
Number one, research

Number two, more research.

And finally a plan.

( this may not be as relevant for the health care industry as it would be for other businesses )

Find out all you can about this new hospital, this CEO, what they hope to accomplish from a business perspective , what makes them different, etc. Are they a "baby hospital", "knife %26amp; gun club", "tommy broke his arm" or "Old people storage" type of facility.

You should go into this with as much information as you can get about what makes this place tick, and what their challenges are. You should then come up with a "small" plan on how you think you can address their issues.

Before you show your grand plan and how you'll be the best thing since golf on wednesdays, you should have a few open ended questions you want to ask. Business centric and related to your plan. Avoid anything that sounds like "me me me". Pay, Benefits, etc are later in the process... at this point you should be "What can I do for you".

CEO's should operate above the day to day minutia and won't care about IIS vs apache or PHP vs perl, or the uber coolness of AJAX. Nor will they likely care about web hits, page counts, or web servers you've built.

They will care about how you improved the business at your current position. Interviews at this level are different. You need to be able to demonstrate what you've done in the past and how you helped moved the business forward. You then need to show how you plan to use this experience to meet their needs.

Every time you catch yourself about to go technical, stop and think what the technology did to improve the business. It's the business not the technology that's important.

By technical: upgrades, help desk ticket counts, patches, web pushes, script writing, backups, etc

By business: Availability for users, rapid issue resolution, information sharing, cross team communication, etc

Good Luck.

p.s. There's no such thing as over prepared, over informed, or over dressed when meeting with a corporate officer. Their time is valuable, they'll notice and appreciate the effort.

Re: your update... Never undersell yourself. Ellison and Gates never graduated. Smarts is smarts. Just keep it about how you are looking to help them.

When will we have to curtail our consumption patterns?

With a growing world population, and growing levels of wealth, we are using more of the earths resources than ever.

In the UK many people get new mobile phones every year for example. The rate of technological change means the lifespan of consumer goods is getting lower, and increases in wealth mean we are less resourceful. Recent research suggest we throw away 1/3 of the food we buy.

My question is how long do we have before we really start to put a strain on the earths resources?

When will we have to curtail our consumption patterns?

What are the steps for changing a deeply ingrained habit?

Is there any academic or marketing research literature on how to change a deeply ingrained consumer habit?

What are the steps for changing a deeply ingrained habit?
1st recognize that you are doing it

2nd distract yourself
Reply:As for reading, there are quite a few books, but cant quite point them out to you (never looked into them, only saw them). Breaking a habit takes concentration, realize what youre doing and get others to help you steer from it or avoid it.
Reply:awareness that the habit exists, decide what other kinds of behaviors you would like to replace this one with. example, when i quit smoking, i started excercising regularly, i also switched my daily routine around so that the habit was not being triggered so strongly. another factor you might look at is is this habit involving other people.?i hung out with and assoicated with many smokers. so i also changed to some degree, my social contacts.

Reply:with all the online fraud coming out of africa i just wouldnt trust any website that is from there, i would only buy from a website of a company i knew is based here and is a real business
Reply:My suggestion would be to first sign up with BBB on line site. This will qualify you has a safe place many people are still skeptical to buy on line and this will ease many fears. As for product something unique that other sites don't have will give you an edge and low prices also depending on your targeted clientele. Good luck Chris
Reply:Your natural resources, if you have such as coal, gold, silver.
Reply:Baskets are always nice, beaded work, mask, spears, and carved items..all sell well.Sometimes hand woven material from there and jewelry items. The weapons allways sell pretty good and there is a huge following of mask.. good luck to you on your endevor
Reply:For women: jewelry. If I were to buy something I would look for interesting, unique and beautifl bracelets, necklaces, earrings, etc. Furniture is also a good idea. Decorations for parties.
Reply:Interesting looking masks.

Possibly some unique food-products,.....African peppers, sausages (with goat-intestine casings) etc
Reply:We can help you to sell almost everything you have on European market.
Reply:I really like stories of microfinance in African countries.

There is a great story here in Australia - if you google adopt a sheep, you will find a blog spot where you can adopt sheep and help farmers of Australia feed their sheep during the worst drought of Australia - it may inspire you to assist people in Africa to do a similar thing. (Yes I know it sounds a bit like World Vision - but it is not adopt a child)

I would be reluctant to buy something from an African web site.

If it was a local based web site - jewellery maybe?
Reply:vanilla pods, gems, shea butter and possibly cocoa beans.

What are some brands of Sump Pumps that are recommended?

Recently one of my friend's basement flooded due to a bad sump pump, so it made me think that I need a backup plan in case mine were ever to break.

I have looked online and cannot really find a good website that compares consumer experiences with specific brands of sump pumps.

Does anyone have any recommendations or websites to do some research on this?

This is for a residential ranch house, about 1200 square feet with a full basement.

Thanks for any help.

What are some brands of Sump Pumps that are recommended?
Zoellers is byfar one of the best ...others are wayne, picqua, goulds, myers, sta-rite,f%26amp;w...all of these will work but I would suggest you buy a zoellers or a goulds..as they are heavy duty castiron pumps that have built on floats...they are not as cheap as some of the others but will give you many years good service.....
Reply:I have used these pumps and have been more than pleased with how they preformed: Zoeller, Ridgid, Wayne, Flotec. I have a similar size house to yours and have a submersible that turns on at 18" below the floor and an upright that turns on at 12" below the floor. That has kept me dry as long as we don't loose power. I look for gallons per hour and prefer cast iron or stainless steel pumps. Hope this helps.

How do I know I am offering a fair profit to a car dealer? (& not being ripped off)?

From my research I have discovered that the Consumer Reports bottom line price for a 2007 Toyota Camry LE (automatic) is approximately $18, 756. This takes into account dealer incentives such as manufacturer rebates and "holdbacks." Knowing that this price also has a built in 3%-5% profit margin, how much more above the CR bottom line price should a buyer offer without being taken to the cleaners? I realize that this vehicle is in high demand also which does not help the buyer when negotiating a reasonable price--just looking for a little bit of help to secure a deal. Thanks in advance for your advice.

How do I know I am offering a fair profit to a car dealer? (%26amp; not being ripped off)?
If your paying under MSRP on a new Camry your doing OK.

As long as the sales guy and the finance guy (the real crook) get a couple hundred bucks between them (at least in a large dealership) you should be good. Also, if you want to make a bottom-line offer do so at the end of the month as a salesman who is not doing so well would just love to sell one more for the period, if his stats are poor. It might be his job, esp if he's new.

Also, if you feel you can't get them to go as low on the price as you'd like, try adding options or features to the car at little to no cost.

I know on Scions, which are all set and sold at no-haggle prices, you can negotiate free additions like floor mats, tint, satellite radio, etc. instead of lowering the car's price.
Reply:A new model year is more difficult. You should be able to find a dealer that will sell a car in inventory for 400 to 500 over invoice less rebates. If you have a trade, this is were most people get into trouble. The other place to save is financing, check out credit unions in your area. Each interest point saved will save you $400-$500 over the term of the loan. Many dealers have CU available and that's OK. Cuddle (Group of CU) do not permit the rates to be marked up. Customers do not realize how expensive it is to run a dealership, the Hold-Back is needed by the dealership to stay in business. Good Luck
Reply:%26lt;%26gt;You are getting ripped off automatically if you feel you have to offer a dealer more than a car is worth in order to get him/her to sell you the car. I'd rather get another car than do that.
Reply:you're usually getting ripped off by those jerks.
Reply:Lemme say it this way.

If they paid $3000 for a car, they charge you $9000. The salesman gets a third of the sale price, and the dealership the rest. I say don't feel guilty about ANY offer YOU can make.

I like what Mike Tyson said HE does when HE buys anything. He said he tells them,"That's a good price, but, I can get a better deal somewhere else." And starts walking!
Reply:You shouldn't worry about the car dealer's profit - they'll do that for you. Focus on getting them down as low as possible and use any and all leverage that you can to negotiate lower. Don't be afraid to walk away - there are tons of dealers that sell the Camry so if one won't give you the price you want, find one who will.
Reply:man, i'm so confused.
Reply:Sounds like you have done your homework and let me tell you...they don't like people who have done so.
Reply:go to dealer #1, offer 5% below that price, argue with them on it for a while, walk off if they don't take it and see if they actually let you walk - if they let you walk away your price is too low and you can try dealer #2 at 5% higher then your first offer

doesn't work unless you really walk or drive away

doesn't work if you let them con you into the undercoat and whatnot in the back room or let them screw you on financing.

Anybody know how to find the list of retail chain stores?

Our company is selling the consumer products and we are planning to get into retail chain stores. We have been doing research and trying to find the complete list of store chains operated in Canada and US. There are some retail chain directories charging a lot money to purchase the directories, which is quite expensive for a small company like us.

Anybody know where to find the free list of chain stores or at minimum cost?

Thanks for your help, I appreciate it.

What's your views on the nature of representation of women in print advertisements?

Do they(print advertisements) empower women or they are stuck on past images?Do these images represent reality or not and why?I am asking this question in order to answer my dissertation's research question which has to do with the representation of women in print ads published in consumer magazines.Thank you.

What's your views on the nature of representation of women in print advertisements?
This is a huge question. If you're doing a dissertation, you should expect to do a great deal of research and eventually begin to be able to answer it for yourself.

If you want a survey-type response from the Y!A community, you should try to make the question much narrower. You can post a number of questions that relate to this area to help compile some data as part of your research for your dissertation.

As a consumer, technician, or enthusiast, would you buy a book about vacuum cleaners covering everything?

I am a vacuum cleaner expert. I'm sure many folks know a little more as far as models and dates of manufacture, but that's easy research stuff. Not to put anyone down surely- in fact much of my books appeal would be accredited to the beautiful images of particular models and their history.

Aside from your typical coffee table book styling, my book would go deeper into the actual function of vacuum cleaners. Sort of an investigative attempt to dispel myth from fact, or hype from reality.

"BORING G G...", you might say.

Well maybe, but have you ever picked up a book that captured your attention simply because it was done well. Then later you found yourself flipping back in your mind about some detail you recalled from that book? Hey, everyone cleans their floor right? My desire to write an in depth book about vacuum cleaners might be well accepted. Who knows?

If you have any suggestions or ideas that might help me with my outline for the book please let me know.

As a consumer, technician, or enthusiast, would you buy a book about vacuum cleaners covering everything?

How about Thai food in UK? I want to export it to UK.?

I research about english consumer behavior such as eatting style, market shre of frozen food in UK, main competitor in UK etc. Can you recommend the source for searching that information?

How about Thai food in UK? I want to export it to UK.?
There enough Thai food in the UK. You can buy frozen Thai food and microwave it now. Plus the UK is full of Thai restaurants
Reply:Tasteless garbage
Reply:you need goverment help on this one certain foods are not allowed in the country .try and find a site that might help you...its totally illegal to import polish potatoes .it might be the same with other foods
Reply:I think you mean import to UK, unless of course you live in Thailand.

Real Thai food, as in Thailand, is not expensive. If you were to import bingredients, and have people prpeare the food their, and sell it at low prices, then I'm sure you could be on a winner.

Thai rice is known to be the best rice in the world, and the variety of flavours availablke, from sweet to hot spicy, means that there is food for everyone's taste.
Reply:I like Thai food and where I live there is only 1 Thai restaurant to go to, depending on where you llive - we all can't get Thai food in shops to freeze them or buy them frozen - will have to look around and see where it is needed more but think there is a market for Thai food. Best of luck.
