SO CONFUSED Reliabilty on makes of cars differs from consumer?
Everyone has different experiences with all vehicles. For example. I currently have an 01 VW Jetta VR6 and have had great luck with it. All I have done to it is maintain it and it has 180,000 miles on it and I don't see why i can't get 50 or 60k more out of it. But these cars have a reputation as being a less reliable vehicle.

Some people will not maintain a car and fuss and cry when it breaks down, some will maintain them and they last many years, and others maintain them well and still have nothing but problems. Buying used cars is always a crapshoot.

But if an owner maintains a vehicle well, it is more than likely going to last weither it is a BMW or a Buick.
Reply:BMW's are prone to a wide variety of problems, many of which are best handled at their rather sparse dealer network. Parts availability is not this brands strong suit. After years in the auto repair business in a shop where much of our business comes from upper middle class folks who buy cheap Euro cars (3-series BMW's, Audi's, Volvo's and Saab's) to impress their neighbors into thinking they are better off than they are I am convinced these vehicles are purchased primarily for ego satisfaction.

A Toyota will do everything the average driver needs to do in greater comfort and and dramatically lower cost with infinately greater dependibility.
Reply:Nothing man made lasts forever. BMW is a good car, but when it needs repairs - they will be expensive.

All things are relative, if you love the car, then the extra expenses will be worth it, if you can't afford the extra expenses, you'd be better off with a Honda or Toyota. But nothing is perfect, especially if it's used. They will all need repairs, to some people, it drives them crazy and they can't stand it, to others - it's just part of having a car. But to be realistic, BMW repairs will cost you more, but it depends on the individual car as to whether or not the repairs are excessively expensive. Hope this helps.
Reply:Have you tried the 'straight' Autos section of this forum? What country do you live in (you mention BMW right off)? My understanding is that the BMW is a very expensive auto that only rich people should consider buying and keeping up.

If all you really need is good, reliable transportation; reasonable comfort and ease of handling; reasonable gasoline mileage (miles of travel per gallon used); low repair frequency and expense, etc. the auto I am hearing a lot of talk about now-a-days is the Toyota Camery. I, personally, have never had any experience with Toyota autos, so take my recommendation with a 'grain of salt'.
