Try the Interactive Advertising Bureau at www.iab.org. They have lots of research on online things.
Also, try lots of the other trade magazines and organizations for advertising - understanding online is a huge deal right now and they're full of articles about it.
Also, I just Googled "online consumer research" and found lots of articles. Just make sure that you try to correlate any information found from more than one place, or try to make sure that the source is reputable. You should be able to find enough research within these results to either answer your question or direct you to more.
