Trying to pick a crib?

I am due April 19 and am in the process of trying to buy a crib. I am trying to find where to research or get reviews on cribs for free (consumer reports charges). Also if you have a crib that you would recommend or would not recommend please let me know (manufacturer, name of crib). I am trying to stay around $250, give or take a little. Also where did you go to get your crib? A baby store, a furniture store, a discount store? Thanks for all your help.

Trying to pick a crib?
We bought our crib at Target. It is made by Bassett Baby and we love it. It is very sturdy and well made. It was $299.99 and it comes in white or honey finishes. There are also other pieces in the collection like a changing table and dresser. We have been using it for just about 3 years with no problems at all. I tested cribs when I was looking by giving them a good shake, if they were flimsy I didn't even consider them. Your baby will shake it back and forth and jump up and down so make sure it can take some abuse!! Good luck and congratulations.
Reply:Do NOT recommend the Jardine brand in Cherry wood color.

We bought that one and the smell from the schlak (i know i spelled that wrong) was so bad that it smelled up the whole upstairs of the house - luckily it was under the 30 day notice and we still hadn't had our baby yet - so we returned it.

Another nice thing to get just so that you know so that they can sleep in the room with you for a little prior to moving them into a room by themselves if you wanted to do this was a pack n play...came in SO handy because you can use it as a changing table too while they are little.

Best of luck and congrats!
Reply:Well, for my second set of twins we had to buy another crib because my father in law broke one and we got a simpicity one. I forget the actual name of it, but it is a 4 in 1 bed and it has a little dresser (with changing table on top) on the side with a shelf also. I think that at walmart it was under $250. It is very simple of me to lower the side of it with no problem when I have my son in my arms. I was not to hard to put together also. Any crib that you can get more than one use out of is great (ex toddler bed, daybed etc.)and well worth the money.
