Why is society so obsessed with celebrities? See Details below?

The Reason I ask is because I've been doing a lot of research of how consumers choose to buy. And a big percentage of consumers choose certian products or services because they see a celebrity with it. Or they choose to buy a magazine because a celebrity was on the cover.


People aren't realizing that they are losing purpose in their life because they are living their life following the life of celebrities.


If people follow their passions instead of,trying to figure out what celebrities are going to get divorced next week, more people will succeed in life.


How did society get like this? We aren't suppose to idolize celebrities the way we do. Will this every change?


People should follow their own path %26amp; not try to be like their favorite celeb.

This is a great question. It seems like we have to do everything what the media says. Look at young girls these days. They try to be as skinny as Nicole Richie. We are being fed all this junk from the media and we think this is the truth, that being just a bag of bones is beauty.


I actually try to avoid looking at magazines such as "People", "Stars" and so forth. I prefer to read my Reader's Digest. They seem to have much more useful stuff for me there.
Reply:yea i agree. i was at the store today and the guy at the cashier started talking to me about some celeb and i was thinking to myself that i don't give a **** about that person!


i think the media really brainwashes people and affects what they should think about, what they should appreciate, etc...and it's all based on superficial things.

Reply:celebrities are human maniquins. better to see the product on a live person then sprawled on the table. Plus you can see the durability or worthyness of it
