How do you report a scam?

I received this popular letter from Consumer Research to be hired as a Mystery Shopper. It came with a check of over $3,600. The check was to buy stuff from walmart, kmart, gap and others and also to send money through Money Gram. The letter had a thousand spelling errors. I went to the internet and found several people that were scammed as well. Of course I never cashed the check, but I'd like to get to the bottom of this. How do you file a report that somebody was trying to scam?, Is there any way?, where do I go or Who do I contact?.

go to better business bureau. I don't know the exact address, but you can google it. You can also bring the check to your bank and tell them it's a scam. They'll be able to help you!
Reply:Call the police.

Counterfeit checks is a crime.

Your local police will contact the correct agency.

Spelling errors is not a crime.

I would get their name, mailing address, and telephone number. Tell them you are sending a money order or international money order because their is no Western Union or Money Gram in your area. Then give that information to the police.

They use Western Union and MoneyGrams to be anonymous, but if you can make them believe you are really going to send a money order, they need to give you their real information. They might fall for it.

BTW: Don't give them any more real information about you, these are gangsters, probably in Nigeria. They have no conscious. These organized crime groups are infamous for robbing orphanages also.
Reply:The letter came by mail, so this can be pursued as mail fraud, go to the post office. You can also contact the Federal Trade Commission, your states Attorney General, or your local police. This type of fraud is so rampant don't be surprised id none of the agencies do very much, but please report it. Often it is a volume of complaints against one scammer that gets someone to take action.
