Please help. This is urgent. Pls say something about the products of Wyeth in relation to their consumers and consumer relation. I'm doing a research. Lengthy answers are greatly appreciated.
Consumer behaviour - is the study of how people buy, what they buy, when they buy and why they buy. It is a subcategory of marketing that blends elements from psychology, sociology, sociopsychology, anthropology and economics. It attempts to understand the buyer decision making process, both individually and in groups. It studies characteristics of individual consumers such as demographics, psychographics, and behavioural variables in an attempt to understand people's wants. It also tries to assess influences on the consumer from groups such as family, friends, reference groups, and society in general.
Pls.Answer. What can you say about the products of Wyeth in relation to their consumers and consumer behavior?
I took the following information from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wyeth and modified it for the response you're looking for as I understand it:
Wyeth is one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world. Corporate headquarters are in Madison, New Jersey, but its pharmaceutical division, which comprises the bulk of Wyeth's revenue and profits, is run out of Collegeville, Pennsylvania. They are known for manufacturing the over-the-counter drugs Robitussin and the analgesic Advil (ibuprofen), as well as the prescription drugs Premarin and Effexor. LET'S STOP HERE FOR A SEC.
Robitussin is an OTC drug for coughs and colds. Everybody needs it at one time or another throughout the year, and many doctors start with that recommendation rather than writing a script. (At least, my doctor does.)
Advil - also an OTC - is used for a multitude of problems...from colds to pain to problems with sleeping. Another product everyone needs.
Premarin targets women going through their menopausal stage while Effexor is used for depression.
They've been in business since 1860 which lends credibility and respectability to their products. Samples are routinely left with physicians to hand out to their patients for exposure to their products.
And look at this direct quote: "In 1862, on the suggestion of DOCTORS," (a key word here) "they began to manufacture large quantities of commonly ordered medicines. They were successful, and in 1864 they began supplying medicines and beef extract to the Union army during the Civil War."
Americans have grown up on their products!!!
The article goes on to state, "In 1941, the United States entered World War II, and Wyeth shipped typical wartime drugs such as sulfa bacteriostatics, blood plasma, typhus vaccine, quinine, and atabrine tablets; they were later rewarded for their contribution to the war effort. During this time, Wyeth launched its Penicillin research facility with G. Raymond Rettew."
There's a whole slew of other products they manufacture listed on this one web site. I think the one marketing strategy that stands out most (at least to me) is that they definitely give their products away through the medical field and possibly through the government, or they receive the necessary contract through the government to provide our troops in time of need. The use of their products more often than not carries over to these men and women continuing to use these medicines in their own homes, and become a way of life for them, their children, and their children's children.
I hope what I've written helps you.
