Do we need a corporate welfare amendment? Don't we all agree that business subsidies should end?

This seems to be something that we all agree on - - - Libs don't even think an incorporated entity "deserves" to keep its own earnings..... Cons / Libertarians don't want a free ride for anyone, and some of us actually grasp that corporate welfare is even worse than individual welfare because not only does it transfer capital from someone who generated it to someone who didn't, it directly interferes with consumer choice because you're helping the competitor of someone who generated earnings through better meeting consumer demand.

But for different reasons we do all seem to agree, corporate welfare is evil!!!!!

So if we all agree that it's wrong, how can we end it?

NO agricultural subsidies (including ethanol) - - NO R+D subsidies, NO government funded industrial research, NO employment incentives. NO HANDOUTS.

I propose: all money going from the federal govt to a for-profit company must be in exchange pursuant to a government contract and governed by the FARS.

Do we need a corporate welfare amendment? Don't we all agree that business subsidies should end?
Both you and Given2Fly nailed it.
Reply:Every person in this country, save the politicians themselves and the people who buy them off, would enjoy a vastly better life if we fully embrace a true free market economy where the government stays out of the economy completely.

To that end I would support your amendment and suggest strong clear wording something like:

Congress shall make no law or deliver fiduciary action of any kind that would directly or indirectly subsidize a private commercial enterprise of any legal definition. Congress may only legislate and fund where procurement of products and services is required to directly provide a federal service created prior to {some date}.

If the Supreme Court deems any legislation or fiduciary action to violate this amendment, in word or spirit, legislators signing such legislation shall be immediately removed from public service, forfeit all future federal benefits, and at the discretion of the court, may serve up to 20 years in a federal penitentiary.
Reply:Won't happen.

Reason:

Just look at the Pharmacutical industry.

No drug company will fund research into new antibiotics, because their useful life is so short.

The companies just won't get enough return on the investment, to make the investment in research profitable.

So, the US government pays for the funding into research for new antibiotics.

Sound government policy, because even if they are not profitable, we still need new antibiotics coming online.

Well that is a government subsidiy, is it not ?

For most government subsidies, you will find a reason, that the money or tax break was given.

Like tax breaks to the auto companies for investing in research on alternative fueled cars.

Now they need to be tweaked and adjusted, which they are not, at this moment.

But doing away with them entirely, will never happen.

And probally shouldn't happen.
Reply:I agree with you on this. There's nothing in the constitution that allows the government to take our tax dollars and give them to private corporations.. or individuals. I have no problem with local subsidies or state level..but at the federal level, yes.
Reply:Now wait a minute, does that count the recent $38,000,000,000.00 bailout to mortgage companies by the FED?

How did the mortage companies lose money when they repossessed a record number of American homes?
Reply:Most politicians and the mainstream media are owned by corporations.

Corporate welfare will exist until a political party that represents the interests of American consumers and workers rises to power.

Not any time soon.
